I hope you have had a creative start to 2019! Last year, I mentioned that I was working on two new fiber art pieces. Here's an update on one of them for you: In these pictures, you can see that I have already completed all of the curved piecing
and applique work for the leaves and background, and that I am doing the quilting. I densely free motion quilted the background pieces, and quilted around each leaf. My husband suggested that I not quilt the leaves at all, and I'm so happy that I took his suggestion! The leaves almost seem to pop out from the background! The last picture is taken of the back of the piece because sometimes it is easier to see the stitching there. You can see that I used a jagged, long v-shaped quilting design for the free motion work. I was inspired by the print on the batik background fabric. I will enter this piece in a call for entry that opens in February, so check back soon for other updates!

I hope you and your loved ones had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Here at our house, we were busy, but blessed. For Thanksgiving eve, I experimented on a new recipe: Stuffed Pumpkin For Thanksgiving dinner, we had the traditional menu, but I was especially pleased with how the pies turned out this year: As far as projects go, my daughter finished making the ornaments that we give to various people every year. I'm so proud of her, because she made these all by herself this year! These stars were made completely from scraps! She sewed small strips of fabric down onto to scraps of batting and then traced around a star shape using a heat erasable pen. After layering the backing fabric, she Sewed on the traced line and caught the hanging ribbon in the seam. Lastly, she cut them out with pinking shears and ironed the lines away! My daughter also wanted to make a small case for her phone/mp3 player. She had the idea all planned out, but I helped her with the execution of the details. :) The simple fold-over construction made it quick and easy. We inserted a piece of very stiff fusible interfacing between the two pieces of batik and she sewed through all the layers. Then, I showed her how to zig-zag around the edges. For the closure and to hold the phone in place, she used some extra elastic hairbands and then she hand sewed the button in place. Cute! Were you able to squeeze in any time to create?
