Last weekend, we ventured to Golden, Colorado. Our goal was to stroll the historic little town just outside of Denver and to visit the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum. From their website, one of their current exhibits intrigued me because all of the quilts are made out of paper. Yes, you read that correctly! Paper! Most in fact, were made from junk mail! The artist, Jane Mathews, is not only creative and resourceful, but she is also brilliant with her use of color and attention to detail! Some of the pieces on display, actually reminded me of the Italian fresco paintings that were done on fresh plaster. No flash photography was allowed, so I used my phone to snap just a sampling to give you an idea. These pictures definitely don't do them justice! The other exhibit currently on display features challenge winners that used one of four fabric lines that were reproduced from quilts in the museum's permanent collection.
Those quilts are beautiful as well and while most are more traditional, it is neat to see the unique twists every quilter included. RMQM changes their exhibits quarterly, offers classes and lectures, and has fantastic membership options! If you happen to live close by, or are coming to Colorado for a visit, I definitely recommend it!

you wake up to this? You make some of these, and you do something creative, of course! Using my bendable ruler and some freezer paper, I drafted a pattern to follow.
Next, I added letters, numbers and symbols to guide me through the process. Then, the really fun part! Seeing it come to life in color and stitches! Check back and watch the progress!! |
