My daughter and I recently went back to TX to visit family and attend a wedding. While there, we visited the LHUCA (I have exhibited here in the past. Click here and here to read about that work) in Lubbock to see a fiber art exhibit by the Caprock Art Quilters — what a great show!! Here are some pics of my favorite pieces in no particular order: Another artist, Valerie Komkov Hill, captivated my attention, not only because her work is really good, but also because of how she mounted her small pieces. These are all in a series entitled "Solitude." It's always great to see other fiber artists getting their work out there and I enjoy the inspiration!

Next, using Sulky Cotton Blendables, I started some of the freemotion stitching to not only secure the pieces together, but add depth and texture. For the trees, I used a freemotion zig zag to mimic the edges of the pines. It's a fun technique that results in a "herky jerky" sort of stitch that I think really added some visual interest to the piece that a traditional straight stitch would not have. And yes.....I really did use all of those spools in this piece! The colors were just too good, not too! :)
